Creativity

This post could also be titled: 'Kids are SO cool!' The past year has been a very good one for me. I've gotten to work for a small toy brand that I started out admiring and now downright love. And as a side benefit of that work, I've made friends with a seven-year-old (I don't think there are a ton of 25-year-olds who can say that...) See, the team I work with is a team of freelancers. Each and every one of us works from our kitchen tables and our home offices. Every so often we get to work from each other's kitchen tables and home offices. That means that a couple days a week, I wind up at G's house. If I happen to be there at 3:00, I get to help welcome the kids home from school. Sometimes that leads to grand adventures. More after the jump...

brand-new coroflot portfolio

I just posted my portfolio on coroflot . You can see it here . I think that I could spend some more time making the page layouts ideal for coroflot , but this is a start...sort of a teaser. I will probably put more up here soon.

portfolio! (and slightly updated teaser)

Just put the first finishing touches on my new portfolio. You can see it here . As always, I would appreciate feedback. Be critical- this is important! Also, here is my partially updated teaser. I am still going to redo a few of those sketches...

portfolio teaser

A new concept this time around with the job hunt... portfolio teaser... a one-page pdf meant to draw in potential employers. I cannot begin to explain how intimidating it is to try to represent myself and my design capabilities in one page. I decided to showcase my mini mix project because it is really different. Feedback MUCH appreciated here- thanks!
portfolio teaser made with animoto.com... i would love to hear your comments, i am not sure i will stick with this corny website slideshow

goals for the quarter

- get a press pass >This sounds like a joke, but I'm not kidding. I really enjoying writing about design and life and how the two correlate. Not only that, but being a member of the press has great perks at all sorts of events. I am going to strive to write engaging and pertinent blog entries and explore some avenues for becoming a 'member of the press' (core 77 contributer maybe?) - stay balanced >In high school I went to leadership camp where they taught about the 4-fold way of life, balancing physical, mental, social, and religious aspects at all times. I still try to balance things out... that doesn't have to mean that everything gets an equal amount of time, but maybe they get an equal amount of attention. My 4 folds, at least for now, are more like family, academics, work (waitressing), and social stuff. - get a job >Getting a co-op job might sound like something to be taken for granted, but every time I have had to look for one it has been a diffic...

who I am and where I am heading

To start things off, here is a little information about me, so you know where I stand... I believe in people. It's a really basic idea, but it's one of my primary motivations for design. I strongly believe that there is something of significance to gain from every interaction-whether large or small- with other people throughout any given day. That is why I have been a waitress for nearly five years now. The work is really hard and the customers are sometimes difficult, but at the end of the day the overall 'vibe' is usually a good one. I love my bicycles. I've had a bike for a long, long time, but just got my first road bike last year. Riding a road bike- fast- has the potential for being pure bliss. It also has the potential to be not a lot of fun, depending on how you are feeling or how hard you are pushing. That fascinates me. Perhaps most of all, though, I believe in fun. I think every product has the potential to help the consumer have fun and enjoy themselves....
