Are you familiar with GOOD? It's, well, a great media organization that focuses on positive news. Their website is fantastic and their magazine is always inspiring. One of my favorite things that they do is host 'projects.' (Take a peek at one of my past submissions here.) They invite readers to participate in content creation. In return, one or two 'winners' receive little prizes—like a t-shirt or magazine subscription.
But the prize really isn't the point. The projects encourage folks to get out there and do things. And the opportunity to have your work posted on such an amazing site is a reward in and of itself.
