Eric Carle is a master. Granted, he is a master known for his work with illustrating children's stories. That being said, I think we could all learn a thing or two from him. He has crafted his own style that is recognizable anywhere. His images may not be perfect, but they work really well for him. His style is also very unique, so he has created a niche for himself. In addition, he uses color really well (his palette is often vibrant but rarely overbearing) and keeps things simple. All of his images use simple components to make up one more complex images.
...I'm not sure an Eric Carle inspired story board would be the best, though...
